Looting, Riots, and 46 arrests in the Kimani Gray Vigil................. |
|

![]() This past week, 16 year old Kimani Gray was shot and killed by police officers in East Flatbush. The police claim that they saw Gray acting suspicious, and when they followed him and asked him to freeze, he pulled out a .38 caliber revolver and they shot him 7 times in the front and back, which killed him. Police commissioner Ray Kelly made a statement claiming that there was a gun recovered from the scene, and final report was that the police acted in a manner where if they feel threatened, they open fire. This justified the killing.
The family of Kimani Gray object to these statements and believe that it is nothing more than police brutality and the way they pick on all young blacks in the community. They also deny that their son would ever carry a gun. Further investigation shows that Kimani had a criminal record including grand larceny, rioting, possesion of stolen property, and breaking into a car. Remember, this kid is only 16 years old.....How and why does he have such a record, he is a baby!
So the family decides to have a vigil for Kimani and of course, all of the people who need to be seen show up. Community leaders believe the cops treat most people like animals, yet when they want to get a message across, 46 of the community members get arrested? The NYPD has a stop and frisk policy and although it has been debated for some time, it targets youths that fit the description of drug dealers and criminals in the community. The last three days have been filled with Rioting, looting, and stealing from local stores. What we believe happens here is that some people just take advantage of the situation, and they too become criminals. Because if you believe that anger at the police would make me steal from Rite Aid, you would need to have your head examined.
Hurricane Sandy and Coney Island.....
Perfect example, the day after the storm, people in the community looted every single store on Mermaid ave. They were walking out of Rent a Center with everything, they broke into the Bank ATM'S they destroyed the supermarket and every other store on the avenue. It was so pathetic that the Hess Station rented a 30 yd container and just put the entire contents of the store in it for the people to just "Take for free" As the sign said .....So now tell me this? People live in this community too, and yet why loot your local store that you always shop in? Were they that angry at the storm?
How do we solve this problem?
The local clergy, community leaders, and politicians in East Flatbush need to get together with the N.Y.P.D. and youth and start programs that keep them OFF of the street and not roaming the neighborhoods. The other responsibility here is to the parents of these young people....Why does everything always have to fall in the lap of the city? They didn't raise your children! You did!
The two officers involved were a black and a hispanic. Imagine how they feel killing such a young boy?
We need to spend more money and time on our kids education and activities at a younger age that keep kids OFF of the Streets! |

![]() Sometimes you need a day of fun. And that is exactly what this writer had when he went to the Winter Wonderland party for Rock Asylum. To be sitting in a room full of children the day after the Sandy Hook tragedy, seemed a bit sad. But all of that changed when Paulie Z came out and started performing. He had the entire room Rocking. If it was educational children's songs, or some classic rock, all the kids were participating, and so were the parents! It is obvious that Rock Asylum has what it takes to execute the mission they are on! Rock Asylum Foundation is a non-Profit organization, dedicated to creating opportunities for elementary age students to engage in learning the common core standards through original music, both recorded and live. These songs are being written to target issues, both academic and social, that are often challenging for students in high risk areas. Interactive concerts will be donated to schools, inspiring and inviting students to participate in learning these educational songs. It is their mission to create a catalog of music for schools that will motivate young people to achieve academic and personal success and to become creative, confident, well rounded adults. Rock Asylum is putting the "EDGE" in Edge-ucation! The performance by Paulie Z shows how children can really have a great time, and learn. These kids were smiling and laughing the entire afternoon. And it couldn't have been held in a better place. Play is the ideal environment for children. Safety, cleanliness, imagination and creation..What more do you need? Visit them on 33 Nassau Street. Thank you Josh Gunsberger, owner of play, Janine Colon, Principal of p.s. 196, Debbie Casey, assistant principal of p.s. 196, Eddie Mark, community board 13, Council woman Diana Reyna, Paulie Z, Lisa Johnson, and the rest of the staff. Our children need to be safe! |

| In the wake of the tragic shootings at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newton CT., we would like to address this NOW and maybe law enforcement will get the idea... Our children in Brooklyn and everywhere else in this country are not safe! Access to schools is pretty easy and to be honest, if you are a parent, you ring the bell and they buzz you right in. No waiting/holding area...You don't have to pass a metal detector...you just walk straight in. And there is no protective barrier between that area and access to children. Yes, the future of America, our children! If any of you live in Brooklyn, and pass a TD Bank, you will see a uniformed, armed N.Y.P.D. officer in every single branch. How does that make you feel? Especially when all you have at public schools in NYC are Safety patrols.....Unarmed security guards. This is pathetic. A suggestion would be to run the schools like an Airport. Metal detection devices and x ray all packages and bags. People visiting the school would have to pass through a "Decon" Area and be checked before seeing staff. We have to do it when we go to any court, so whats the difference here? Who pays for all of this? Who really cares! ![]() |
Coney Island's Miracle |

![]() With all of the stories that will come out of the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, there is one that I found to be amazing. Coney Island's Boardwalk Businesses did not get any damage! Think about it, Tom's, The Beach Shop, Ruby's, Lola's, and Nathan's...all in a row, a few hundred yards from the Ocean..Did not get any damage from the Hurricane. And meanwhile, homes and businesses miles away from there are under water and destroyed. To be honest, because I was there and saw it in person...Not one business in Coney Island from Surf Avenue To Neptune Avenue has survived. And that ranges from Stillwell avenue all the way to Sea Gate......Miles! It is a miracle to be looking all around and see all of the destruction and devastation and look at the obvious and see that it was spared. Not one reporter has taken notice of this until now...So expect a lot of follow up stories. By the way, Tom's is open and has been headquarters for all volunteer efforts in Coney. They also have the most amazing Burgers on earth! |

![]() I love living in this place and writing about the things I see and the people I meet. But this is one that I never thought I would have to write and to be honest, my heart breaks for all of the people here. Brooklyn Needs to get together and volunteer to help every person in need right now. If it is water, food, clothing or even sitting down with someone who lost everything, we need to help. It was not my position here as the Editor of this web magazine to ever come back and report about all of the damage and destruction I saw with my own two eyes. Between the News and Facebook, you all got a healthy dose of that. I spent the day in Coney Island today with community leaders helping distribute Water and food that came in from the National Guard. Who would ever think that this would be happening to people in this century? We are so busy downloading apps and playing with social media devices that we have lost touch with the things that are necessary...especially when a disaster like this strikes. I understand that there is nothing you can do to prevent the weather from coming...But what we can do to prepare for the aftermath is something we need to sit down and discuss. People have been without for 4 days. No lights, no food and no hot water. The water has flooded out tens of thousands of homes, and people that lived in them need to find shelters and stay warm. Also, the people who are without, need to rebuild. And the only way this will happen is if we all chip in. The government and state and local agencies do what they can and we as a people follow them. Please take your time and help. Look below and make the call and volunteer. |

Carlo Scissura honored as new Presdent & Ceo of Brooklyn Chamber Of Commerce! |

Carlo Scisurra, former Chief of Staff to Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz was honored this evening as the New President & Ceo of the Brooklyn Chamber Of Comerce.
Over 500 people filled this beautiful room inside the Brooklyn Museum for coctails . Many of whom were in politics, some were members of the Chamber, and best of all, Carlo's mom was in attendance! Speeches were made from Marty Markowitz, Carlo's former boss, and Mayor Bloomberg, who wished Carlo the best of luck at his new position. Carlo then addressed the crowd with a ton of energy and said:
"We are so lucky to be here right now, the world is looking at us"
We supported Carlo when he was running for Borough President because he knows Brooklyn. And nothing has really changed. He is still part of our borough. He may be from Bensonhurst but he understands what needs to be done in East New York as well as Bay Ridge. The key to his success is his understanding of all of the different cultures here and how he can assist them with whatever their needs are within the borough and beyond. We wish Mr. Scisurra the best of luck as he begins this new direction in life.

Should our next President be a Super Computer? |

You may think this is far fetched but it can be done. Simple Input into the computer's database of everything that has transpired in history and every mistake made by every other president and have it programmed NOT to repeat these mistakes. Do you think this will work? I do! It would not have an ego, think with it's privates or have any opinions about anything. This Super Computer will run the budget efficiently, control spending, raise taxes only where they are really needed, and help those who are really needy. It would have the correct foreign policy, and keep products MADE IN AMERICA.... And this is how..... Every state has to submit the numbers and budgets and etc to the master computer, which then feeds all information to the Super Computer and that is how this computer makes decisions. No human Error. Its all done in real time. You think this can't be done? Think again. We are all on the Internet and every move we make is noted somewhere......Just add this to the list. Just a little something to think about during this awful election we are going to have between two men who care more about defaming one another, than the welfare of OUR country! |

The New York City Dept. of health has Approved Mayor Bloomberg's ban on large sugar sweetened drinks today. So now what? Guns will be off of the streets? The homeless will get shelters? Potholes gone? Teachers, Police, Fire, EMS and every other civil servant will get a raise? Will the toll on the Bridges and tunnels go down? Will there be more programs for inner city youth? Will crime go down next year? Will we really deal with the immigration problem? Is all of this going to happen because of a ban on LARGE sugary soft drinks? We all see the problems that you have been elected to solve or at least try and make changes for the better of the people you serve....and soft drinks were not on the agenda! Will this be the news next year? In a poll taken....Violent crimes have gone down significantly since the ban on Large Sugar sweetened drinks was made into law. This poll was taken by a group of overweight teenagers at White Castle. Give us a break Mr. Mayor and put your office to work for the people, not your private interests. Banning a soft drink made of sugar will not stop the problem this country has with obesity. People have eating disorders and need to be better educated on their food choices. Not told what they can and cant have. We have a bill of rights for a reason..Don't we? If you were to ban any drink, may as well make it one that contains ALCOHOL. Because the truth is, more people are killed by drunk drivers then by Big Gulps! |
Brooklyn remembers "The King" Elvis Presley |

| I remember it like it was yesterday. The week of August 16, 1977 we were on vacation with probably half of Brooklyn at Friar Tuck Inn, upstate N.Y. It was during this vacation that my sister came out of the room crying, telling all of us that Elvis had died. The vacation ended that second for everyone. There wasn't a dry face in the entire resort. I was only 10 and never really had understood what death was about. Who really does at that age? But when I saw how many people were crying that day, I clearly remember myself stopping for a moment and thinking about it. "No more Elvis? Who am I gonna be now? The Fonz?" Yeah maybe, because he was kind of like Elvis but it never happened. Nobody replaced "The King". To try and make you understand this better, you have to know that Elvis wasn't just the King, he was part of our home. Although The Stones, Who, and Led Zeppelin were played a lot on our phonograph, NOTHING was close to Elvis! My older sister Marie was obsessed with everything Elvis. I remember she had Elvis bubble gum shaped like records, which I would steal and chew. She had Elvis dollar bills, greeting cards, playing cards, pencils, key chains, books, and we even painted a ceramic Elvis with a blue cape and gold stars. So as a kid I was totally Elvis. I loved to watch him perform and I would act like him in the mirror, then I used to do Elvis at family gatherings.....Oh boy. Everyone in Brooklyn Loved Elvis or wanted to be Elvis! And many of you have memories that put a smile on your face I am sure..... As the years went by after his death, My sister and I would go to anniversary parties hosted by Diane Pullman, the president of the Elvis Presley Fan Club with our Aunt Arlene and friends. Diane was know to everyone in Canarsie simply as "The Elvis Lady". She also petitioned NY State to make January 8th Elvis Presley Memorial day. We all know how he passed away and how he struggled with addiction. Sad and tragic. 35 years may seem like a lifetime to most of you but not for me..When I hear his music today., I become 10 years old all over again. And that takes me away from today's world, just for a moment. No stress, no bills, no heartaches. Friar Tuck Inn, 1977..Me and John fishing in the lake, and swimming in the pool! |
Guns are getting out of control in Brooklyn! |

We have a serious problem here in Brooklyn and its called gun control. They say that guns don't kill, people do. Law makers need to start to stiffen the penalties for people who carry illegal guns! Let's not be concerned about planting trees and focus on guns and the violence here in this borough. When we have to look at the news and see a 2 year old girl was shot it becomes very disturbing. People who possess,or sell illegal handguns should get a mandatory 20 yr sentence. This is not intended for people who have a permit or legally carry and it is not asking to change the constitution. Let's see how many people think about carrying when they will be put away that long....Zero Tolerance! Marching to end violence never works! Let's change the laws! |

![]() I had the pleasure of watching Hot new Recording Sensation and Brazilian/Italian beauty, Bella Saona perform at the Double Seven in NYC last night.Bella, along with her partner, Steve Narvaez, are going to climb the charts really fast and reach super stardom! They have a very unique Electro-Rock sound that I believe will be the rave, and their sound is something the music industry has been longing for. Dance music with a touch of Punk Metal.....This is how I would describe the sounds that came out of Bella. She is lead vocals and Steve plays the guitar and boy can he make sound come out of it....The crowd was jumping up and down during the entire performance and did not stop till the show ended. Bella performed her debut hit single titled "Off With Their Heads" which is available on Itunes today! Well worth the $1.29 Bella is also a winner of the NewNowNext award for Brink of Fame, beating out LMFAO in 2010, and sharing the award with Lady Gaga, who was a recipient the year before. Not too many sounds have come out that have impressed me as much as Bella had last night. I really see her becoming a Mega Star...Her personality compliments her talent. She loves writing music and believes that if she becomes famous it would just be a bonus, but right now she is just happy performing and making people dance. Good luck Bella & Steve! Brooklyn will be following you! FOLLOW BELLA ON FACEBOOK & TWITTER |

Brooklyn 11223...Reality or Dysfunctionality |
|
by George Speranza | 05:28:53 |

![]() There is a lot of controversy going on in Bay Ridge over a new show slated for the Oxygen channel on March 26th called "Brooklyn 11223" Do we really need more Dysfunction? The Series offers a voyeuristic look into the lives of twenty something friends, Joey Lynn and Christie and their friends as they spend the summer learning about themselves, friendship, and the price of betrayal. This show trailer starts with nice shot composition of the city and Brooklyn from overhead...and it ends right there. The show is looking to rejuvenate the Jersey Shore crowd with a new show about Brooklyn, but I'm sorry folks, the characters in this one will not catch on. Right off the bat they make a huge mistake. They claim that Bay Ridge is a full blooded Italian community, and if any of you live here you know its not true. I always thought Bay Ridge was more Irish? None of them grab your attention or stand out, and one other thing...They all sound like they grew up in Bensonhurst! Maybe they should have called it Brooklyn 11204? Furthermore, 11223 is Gravesend and Coney Island...another mistake! Understand that a show that is new should really be different. This one copies in title like Beverly Hills 90210 ...added with Girls Gone Wild and that Jersey Shore abomination! But.....Because of all of this insanity...The producers know it will work! Local politician Vincent Gentile is asking the Oxygen Network to take this show off the air because he views it as demeaning to women in his community. He is also having an "Anti Brooklyn 11223" rally this Friday with female leaders of Bay Ridge. Never gonna happen! Do I agree with this move? Absolutely not. If you think that holding a rally will stop the network, guess again. They have P.R. people calling all network news media to show up at your Rally so that your controversy can bring them more attention. We all know this rule...Any Press is Good Press! So although you mean well, expect this to do the opposite of what you want. If you think this show is the only thing demeaning to women in our community guess again! Have you turned on the radio in the last decade? Most of the lyrics in today's rap songs are demeaning to women...And it is these same women who are listening to these same songs. Frank Sinatra must have rolled over in the grave when 50 cent hit Radio waves.... Times have changed and not for the better I am afraid to say. This new show will not offend anyone because nothing phases people anymore. Television Media has poisoned all of our children for years. It all started with the over the edge sitcoms....And steamrolled now into reality T.V.. Another thing is the Internet.... Google anything you wanna see and it's there @ 50 MBPS.....And the kids can do this in the Library! And we don't shade our children from a show like this. We watch it with them and we tell them the rights and the wrongs of life. And after we do all we can, we hope and pray that they get some of it. This is a constant battle that must be won every evening at the most important place in your home......The Dinner Table! |
Notice to Business Owners: Beware! |
|
by George Speranza | 07:45:56 |
Tweet |
![]() I decided to write about the red flags most business owners run into. Just a few simple paragraphs that you can read and think about before you make decisions on advertising or marketing. Val Pack Mailings, and the Marketeer. These businesses have thrived for years and years and for the life of me I don't know why! The only reason this works is because of the sales force and the way they give you a line of shit over the phone to swell your head up about using their service. The fact of the matter is as follows: They mail to every home in the borough, or throw a bag in the fence of every home...rain or shine! Remember that! Usually a sales person will ask you to offer something or a discount in your coupon or ad. And you think its a bright idea so you decide to do a buy one, get one free with ad or coupon. And here is the reality.... The only people coming into your business with the coupons are already your customers! So not only did you pay for the mailing or marketeer, you just paid double because your steady customer just got a bonus...On You! And there is no argument here. If you use this as a means of advertising make sure you have an online business. Because let's face it, they cater to certain zip codes. And believe me, your hero shop that is in 11204 should not be mailed out to 11249. They wont come. Your battle is with your competition! Get creative and lure new business that way! Local Newspapers This is something that should have been phased out altogether, but it seems that they still have strong sales people that can sell you on numbers. And here is my reality on this advertising: The paper calls you and gives you the pitch...We are in business over 40 years, blah blah blah....and we have a circulation of 200,000 weekly in the borough! Wow you say to yourself, that's a huge number. But let's think about one thing here...That is how many they distribute, not how many that are actually bought. Another thing that is most important and this is the kicker for me....They are clueless when they tell you who reads the paper. There is no way for them to know the exact demographic. Its all a bunch of Bull! And wait, there is your 1/2 page "Pork Store" ad on page 38. Now, how do you know if anyone reads to page 38 and...How do you know if they are not Jewish Or Muslim? You don't! So there goes a couple of hundred wasted dollars...That's right....Wasted! Nobody is sitting in the house with the people who read these papers and to be honest, they are always on the shelf in the grocery stores and news stands that I go into. Local Radio If they are willing to sell you air time for pennies, take it. Otherwise tell them to shove it. Unless you have a huge war chest and are willing to commit for years, this will never work. Radio is a good option if your branding something. Not good for local business with limited funding. And they really could care less about you...They sell dead air space! Cable Television If your product has to do with hockey, football , basketball or baseball...Take a shot. Otherwise Flush that toilet, because between producing the commercial and paying for spots. You will learn a valuable lesson. "I was so mesmerized that I saw my commercial on MSG...Sales must have skipped my mind"! As I always like to say: The bottom line here is...This is your money for your business. Make the right decisions and be a little more creative. The world has changed and everyone has gone by way of the Internet. Smart phones are key to all info and social media is king. The dinosaur will not be coming back, neither will steel wheeled Roller Skates! |

![]() When I sat down with Big Ang, I knew right away that Hollywood would be knocking, and I even told her. But did I think they would be coming this fast? No way! Ang was on the Jimmy Kimmel show this week and was absolutely fabulous! She was also on TMZ, Good Day L.A. and Going on Rachel Ray. Ang tells it like it is and holds nothing back. In her interview on Good Day L.A. she discussed a time when she was arrested after a friend wore a wire and "Ratted" on everyone else which resulted in Ang being on house arrest and having card parties with friends during that time....She also claimed that the Mob is gone because of the rats.... On Jimmy Kimmel, Ang claimed that she is borderline married which means that she is trying to be married and it just doesn't work out. When asked who's fault it was she said "His"! She also said that all of her relatives that were Mob connected are now dead. She also claimed that in the good old day's that if she ever had a problem she would pick up the phone and make a call.....and the problem would go away! TMZ did a piece on Ang ...and that means "Kaboom" Stardom! Next up, Rachel Ray and shows back home. There is nothing you can say about Ang in a negative way. She has come a long way and I am very glad to see that she is going to be a success and make it big. Another great Brooklyn Story! |
The Prescription Drug Epidemic Hits Home |

![]() The bottom line here is that prescription Drugs are killing people... In a span of less than one month, I heard of three local people who passed away as a result of taking pills. Two of them were under 21! My heart goes out to the parents of these kids and to anyone who loved them. This is an absolute tragedy and a shame! There can be no feeling worse than losing a child. And for those of you who don't know how to accept this and right away want to point the fingers the wrong way, let me give you some insight. Drug Overdose is surpassing motor vehicle accidents as the number on cause of death in the U.S. according to the Center for Disease Control. The problem is, pain killers are so easy to get that anybody and I mean anybody can get them. All you have to do is go to the Dr. and tell him or her that you are in pain or have anxiety. They will write you a prescription for a pill that will help you deal with it. The Government has data on this problem and the way they are attacking it is half ass. So expect that "War On Drugs" to last forever, not even putting a dent in the problem. Common sense needs to be used here. If I have a toothache because I just got root canal, all I need is one pill for the day. But that is not what happens. You get a three month supply for a toothache! Think your gonna get addicted from that tooth ache? Bet your ass you are! And addiction is a problem that parents are having a close to impossible time dealing with. Kids today are following one another and doing whatever they want. It is so out of hand. Here is another observation, and pay close attention to this one, cause even you may know of someone who is doing this: Healthcare in this country is a disaster. The Doctor that you go visit gets paid shit by the insurance companies, and that same doctor has a ton of student loans.....So what does he do? He becomes a licensed drug dealer. That's right.....Don't dismiss this! There are many Doctors out there today selling the prescriptions to their patients. People are then taking these prescriptions, getting them filled and selling them to our kids! Yes, this is the fastest money making scheme in the country. Mothers, Fathers, friends, neighbors...All re selling drugs to pay the bills. But they don't see it as a problem because they didn't get them illegally, and they live on with a clear conscience. People who illegally sell prescription drugs should get the maximum sentence for the offense. This should be placed along side the gun laws! Zero Tolerance! If you sell a pill to a kid and that kid overdoses, you have become a murderer. End of Story! How do we solve this problem? I figured it out and maybe someone at the CDC is reading this...... A simple blood test. If you don't have traces of the pills in your system, you don't get them. PROBLEM solved! This is the Gov't website for the centers for disease control take a look at the information and data and how out of control this is getting:: |

In the summer of 1978, Samantha Bonti is fifteen years old and navigating a dangerous relationship with an older boyfriend who’s devastatingly good looking—and an aspiring mobster. Half-Jewish, half-Italian, and hesitantly edging toward pure Brooklyn, Samantha lives in Bensonhurst with her mother Joan, a cynic shackled with addictions, and with Grandma Ruth, Samantha’s loudest and most opinionated source of encouragement. As flawed as they are, they are family. But when a girl wants something more, when tradition is a terrifying roadblock to the independent woman she wants to become, it’s time to break free and find one’s own way. Told from the adult perspective, this is a powerful story of leaving the past to history and the future to fate—as Samantha makes a move to restore hope where there was none, and reach for her dream of a new life as a writer in an inspiring promise of paradise called Manhattan. Suzanne is the author of two feature film screenplays, which are based on her novels. Brooklyn Story, a young woman’s coming of age tale (Simon&Schuster Jan 2011). Big Ang from Mob Wives "Sits Down" with Brooklyn Gossip |

As the Editor of BrooklynGossip.com, I sometimes get perks and this is one of them. This is the first of many interviews I will be doing with people who came from Brooklyn and became famous. I recently had the pleasure of sitting down and getting personal with Angela “Big Ang” Raiola, of the VH1 hit series MOB WIVES and let me tell you this……It was a blast! I arrived at her home at around 1:00 p.m. and was greeted at the front door by Big Ang and Louie, her Pomeranian who is named after Mr. Vuitton. We walked up the zebra carpeted stairs into the dining room where “The Girls” were sitting at a table full of Italian specialties that I swore off years ago! You know, the Italian Bread, Mozzarella, Dry Sausage, Prosciutto etc. Needless to say, I had flashbacks of when I was 215 pounds and my daughter would laugh at me, point to my stomach and say…”Dad is that a belly Shirt?” All joking aside, the spread was great and it was plenty. I even had Foie Gras and crackers. They really Hooked me up! I sat at the table with her sister Janine, Owner of Country Mouse, fine children’s wear and gifts on Staten island, daughter Raquel, nieces Jeannie & Roxanne, and little Jen, one of her closest friends. If we had a curse Jar at that table we could have bought a vacation! Big Ang is a native of Brooklyn. She grew up in Gravesend, then moved to Dyker Heights. All of the information about her connection to the Mob is pretty much out there already and I don’t think that I need to reiterate it. She is on MOB WIVES so you know that there is a connection, got it? The Mob has fascinated people for a hundred years, and this show is proof that it continues to amaze all walks of life. Big Ang’s role on the show is more like “Consigliere” she often is the person the rest of the cast members go to for advice or private counsel. Her popularity on the show is what I think will skyrocket her to a very successful career in anything she wants to do. And she deserves it. I wanted to do the interview and ask her questions that BROOKLYN would want to know…Not the questions Mario Lopez from Extra would be asking… So here is what I got out of Big Ang over lunch: She shops at Nordstroms, and when in Staten Island, Just B Boutique. Her favorite drink is an Espresso Martini….. Favorite places to eat are: Ignazios Pizza under the Brooklyn Bridge, Areo in Bay Ridge, and also, Ponte Vecchio. Loves Raquel Welch & Armand Assante Favorite Movie: To Sir with Love ( sung by LuLu 1967) She loves Classic Disco (Beatstock) She loves to cook and get this: She can cook a seven course meal and have it ready before the table is half set! I saw 3 inch Peter Luger Porterhouse steaks on that counter! Her Favorite car is a Jaguar. Absolutely loves them! She also loves a 1.5 mill, 4 bedroom home with 3 bathrooms, a pool and a cabana boy! Ang once took a homeless guy in a wheelchair to Vincent’s Restaurant in Little Italy and when they would not let him in she told them…”I am paying the Bill” and they allowed him to stay. Big Ang opened her door up to me and treated me like I was one of the family. She is a wonderful woman who has spent a lifetime in a world that not too many of you would ever be able to handle. I am glad to see that she is being sought after and I also believe that she is going to become “Bigger” than her name implies. By the way, the name does not come from her physical attributes. Ang got that name because of her larger than life personality! In ending I decided to ask Big Ang the Billion Dollar Question: “Ang, what is your Bra Size?”, Brooklyn Needs to know!” Ang replied: “If I tell you, I would have to kill you!” Here is to Success leading to Happiness! God Bless you Big Ang and thank you for being the premiere interview on BrooklynGossip.com! Get More: Mob Wives (Season 2) |

![]() Brooklyn was no stranger to racism, hate and segregation. Many of you can think back to a time when ignorance ruled this borough....Thank you to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. for opening the eyes and hearts of so many with his eloquent speeches. We honor this man not only today, but everyday! So maybe today you will sit your children down and watch Dr. King's " I Have A Dream" Speech.....and talk to them about the things our parents were afraid to bring up at the dinner table. Dr. King, may you rest in peace forever, and Thank You! "When we let freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, "Free at last! free at last! thank God Almighty, we are free at last!" |
Amanda Cummings did not have to die! |

Parents need to get their heads out of their asses! This beautiful 15 year old Staten Island girl was struck by a bus on Dec 27th. Police claim that they found a suicide note in her clothing and a witness saw her jump in front of the bus. She died several day's later from her injuries. Now the family of Amanda are insisting that the cause for her suicide was bullying, and a breakup from her recent boyfriend. And they are determined to make sure that those responsible pay for sending Amanda over the edge. I question the family of this young lady and have to be honest when I say that maybe the problem started at home, and nobody noticed? The NY Post reported that a law enforcement source told them that she not only was an anorexic, but a cutter, who mutilated herself with Knives. Amanda was admitted into a hospital 2 years ago for suicide, and yet not one person at her high school was told about any of this because the family claims that if they did tell the school administration, it would make matters worse. Amanda's Facebook posts told a story of a teenager looking for help. Every message she wrote, demanded a PARENTS response. But instead, she was getting comments from kids her age, who are mostly immature themselves. These kids today are on the Internet with no limits so they do whatever and say whatever they want. You can call this bullying, or picking on or anything...It does not matter! Bottom line is that the PARENTS are responsible for the children. Not Facebook friends! Her mother posted on her Facebook that everyone that bullied her should Die! Her Uncle claims that those responsible will be dealt with and he will never stop? This is ridiculous and I believe that the Home should have been investigated by Child services......You don't have to agree, but that is my opinion as a PARENT! Most parents aren't on their kid's Facebook Pages and think that this is a good idea? Since when does your child run your life? I will tell you when...When you are a Parent with your head up your ass! Or just one that is not concerned with the welfare of your children. You need to sit your kids down, tell them to open Facebook, and you read EVERYTHING with them. Don't ask for a friend request because they filter what you can see. And you don't even know it. If your child is willing to do this, and you have built a trust, this is a good start. If they wont open it up, you need to worry, and I suggest school counselor meetings. These are usually very helpful. I am a parent of a 16 year old and let me tell you the Hell I went through because of Facebook. It wasn't easy but I never let down, not one day. Did I need the aggravation? No, but as a Parent..You bet your ass I dealt with it! I hope that every one who finishes reading this takes a minute to sit with their children and re assure them that they are the most important thing in your life and that you love them more than anything! Amanda's tragic death will cause debates and investigations that will carry on for months. The police have no made any arrests and probably will not. Let's try to see this Angel with a broken wing off with our Prayers... |
Double Parking Can Cost You A Fortune! |
|
by George Speranza | 12:45:59 |

Have you ever had to make a fast stop at the local grocery store and realized there werent any available parking spots? Although you circled the block, there was nothing.....So you thought to yourself, "I will just double park real fast, I'm only getting the paper". So you run in the store and as you come out.....Bam! Meter maid getting ready to scan the window sticker and leave you a $115.00 tkt. You run over and plead your case but no way......That little gadget has already done its job and printed out your summons! You can even be sitting in the car and get a summons.....Unbelievable....Was that such a crime? Especially when parking is limited? We may as well WALK everywhere! That was a very expensive Coffee and Paper! Ouch!
What is going on here in New York, and especially Brooklyn is criminal! The city needs this revenue and if you look at how the system works, you would think it is run by a Cartel or the Mob!
Here is the order in which the city operates:
First, they send out the little foot soldiers.....We call them meter maids, they like traffic enforcement, whatever...These are the people that are told...Go write tickets and we don't give a damn who, what , when and how...Just Write Write Write!
So the Victim...The person who gets the ticket is usually middle class, has a ton of bills, just makes ends meet and really cant afford to pay that amount of money.... But, you are given the choice to plead NOT GUILTY and schedule a hearing in front of a judge and fight it....But wait a second...The hearing falls on a work day and you cant take off and lose a day's pay and then pay the tkt on top of it! So what can you do if you cant afford the first option? Hearing on Internet? Always loses and if you plead out you save $20..... So no matter what, you have to pay!
Now here is what happens if you Don't and this is where we compare the city to organized crime.
You are 30 day's late paying a $115.00 tkt so u get a notice, its now $175.00. They just added $60 late fee penalty!
In what COUNTRY is it legal to charge almost 50% in late fees? Oh wait it gets better....Wait 90 days and that summons has now put your vehicle into collection.....This is where the city sends out the Marshal? This is a collector with a GUN and he comes and takes your car! They don't care how or where, they pull it up on the lift, break everything, and pound the car!
Once they have the car...They then add a towing fee, Marshals Fee and a storage fee to the deal.
By the time you get that vehicle, the $115.00 summons you got for that coffee stop u made is now worth $650.00! That is a gain of 500% !!!!! Never mind the damage to the vehicle from the tow truck and who knows what they take?
We all work and have families here in this community and we are good people. Something has to be done to stop the amount of tkts that are put on a quota for this city. We are not saying that we should be able to break the law and park where we want, but when it is obvious that a car is parked to get something in a store, the courtesy should be made for that business! Especially that they do not have sufficient parking available.....
This goes with all parking Violations. Expired meters...U didn't pay 25 cents so now u owe $40.00? You blocked a crosswalk by one inch.....$165.00 Gee you couldn't find a spot and it was late so you parked at the pump? $115.00
We need to stop this insanity and start to get together and Fight City hall......Tell us what you think.... |
Invasion of the 99 Cent Stores |
|
by George Speranza | 12:41:35 |

Take a look around folks.....Gone are most of the stores that we all grew up with! Today we have been invaded by the Ninety Nine cent store! The 99 cent store is a a general name for thrift store, but the 99 cents sign may be a better marketing tool for the eye of the consumer. Using the word thrift may lead those to believe that the merchandise is garbage. But let me assure you, they are the same!
Today I decided to count how many of these stores popped up on 18th avenue in Bensonhurst. I started on 60th street, and not to my surprise, there was one on that corner! I was heading to 86th street when my count began.....By the time I finished, I had 20 and was in Shock! One on every block? And on some, two, or one across the street from the next!
In the 60's and 70's did we see a bakery on every block or a Pizzeria on every corner? Absolutely not!
This raises alot of questions in my mind. Like, where did you get the money to open a store on a busy avenue with avg rent being $2500.00 a month, and decide to make it exactly like everyone else. Wouldn't you all think that with that many stores already, nobody will make any money? Especially when they all sell the same exact stuff...Which is garbage! How many of you can afford to open a business like this tomorrow? People can come from across the sea and open a business and stock it? Half of us would get thrown out of the bank if we asked for a loan for a 99 cent store. Go figure?
The thrift store was always good for those things u would never find in the big stores, or for something that is close to home instead of a run to a hardware store...Before Home Depot put them out of business!
My personal experience is horrible with these stores.
One day I needed a hammer so I run in, buy a hammer real fast, and when I go to hit the nail....The head of the hammer breaks off. Then, I needed Duct tape. I was like, "Yes" they have it! Come home and go to tape the window...Doesn't stick!
And there are other things I wonder....Like are those little toys and things they sell inspected by anyone? Is the food they sell dated? Is that really Joy dish washing liquid or is it Non Ultra Joy? What does that mean? Another concern...Are the toys made of lead? Do we know any of this? No we don't!
The bottom line here is that we have nothing left from years gone by. No more Mom and Pop stores. No friendly person behind the counter, just a person that laughs at every thing you ask for. "How much is this?" you ask. They reply..."Hahhahaha" One Dolla" I don't see the humor when I am in the store, but then again, its good for stand up comedy!
Bottom line, as I love to finish with saying.......
Are the people living among us here in Brooklyn so poor that they need so many of these stores to offer such cheap goods? Does it help them? You tell me please!

Imagine driving your children to school at 7:30 a.m. and find yourself behind this vehicle?
"Mommy, Daddy, what is that?" What do you tell your kids? Um......I don't know? Or do you say: Kids, that is a mans Balls hanging from the tow hitch of that womans car!
And it's perfectly normal to have to see this today? I don't agree.....
The laws have to start changing around here. I enjoy taking my kid to school and I really don't care to have to see this in front of me. For women that have to wear the pants....Just wear them! Do you have to show the world that you have your mans nuts dragging behind your car? And it's not like your 18...You are in your 40's. Give us a break! It is illegal NOT to wear a seatbelt, or to talk and drive, but it's not illegal to have this on your car?
What's next? Penis hood ornaments? Or headlight Boobs? The world our kids are growing up in is bad enough with the Internet BUT CAN WE PLEASE REGULATE ONE THING? |
Brooklyn Rant: Traffic Ticket Blitz! |

We all bitch and moan about the amount of tickets we get, the way we get them, and what happens to us if we don't pay them. And to be quite honest, I really have had enough of this. Yesterday I parked my car at a meter and as I went into the store to get four quarters, I turned around and there was an agent, already writing the ticket. I had the dollar in my hand and I argued my case..I was three steps from the vehicle, and yet, the officer totally disregarded what I said and continued to print me the $35.00 summons. Folks.... Since when in the world would not paying .25 cents cost you a fine that is adjusted at 14,000 %. Yes....It is FOURTEEN THOUSAND PERCENT! We need to start making calls to the officials that we have elected and demand that they serve the people in this community by talking to the mayors office about this insanity. People that live in this community are hard working. They buy locally and help support the economy, they pay income tax, sales taxes, home taxes, and tax on just about everything else. This is not fair to anyone. Especially when you have to take a day off from work to fight the summons and not know if you will lose the days pay and wind up paying the tkt too. Most people just pay, because if they dont...The 14000% can become 50,000 % when they add fines and tow your vehicle. Imagine? For a measly .25 cents? If any private business conducted themselves in this matter, the attorney general would have them in Hot Water! But for the city...Its overlooked! In no way am I saying that people should be allowed to break the law and park wherever they want or not put change in the meter. All I am saying is that Enforcement needs to become a little more understanding when it comes to the situation and the summons. They should not act like robots. We all know the reason why they act this way. They are told to write...... Something has to be done here. Its just not fair.

Is there a future for our kids? |

![]() Being a parent in the year 2011 is becoming more and more difficult. Never mind having to teach our children values. Once they turn on the television or radio or click on the Internet everything changes. And these fast changes make me wonder what this world and country will be like in 30 years. I wrote this today because I was watching a bunch of teenagers in a store and was paying attention to how they dress, act and communicate and it was very disturbing. What will our President act like in 30 years. He is one of these kids and it scares the shit out of me to think about it now. Will he put his BBM on his Facebook? MUSIC Music is a perfect example of how this country is going down the dumps. From listening to music from Jack Jones, Frank Sinatra, Nat king Cole, Elvis, The Beatles, Stones and even Led Zeppelin. Compared to them, the music today is absolutely disgusting. And it is a huge influence on our kids. Whether it be the fashion or the lyrical messages, it changes behavior for the worst. Women used to be praised in music. Today they are put down and the message is. They are ho's and bitches! And young ladies listen to this garbage..... We have really come a long way when it comes to the things that we allow our kids to look at and listen to. Elvis Presley is a great example of this. When he showed up on the scene in the 50's they looked at him as if he were the Anti Christ, and what was he really doing? Dancing around and singing harmless tunes? They wanted him banned everywhere. I was told by many that Elvis records were not allowed in their household. My mother once told me that The Young Rascals was forbidden to be played in our house when we were kids. Groovin? The point I am trying to make is that this was the way we were raised and although changes were coming, we weren't taught to go with it that easily. Our parents still at least tried to teach values. When listening to 50 cent or Lil Wayne...and now Rihanna, you may want to kill yourself knowing this is all that your kids listen to! And there is nothing you can do about it. So remember this when your 8 year old is walking around the house singing the following lyrics: Suck my cockiness Lick my persuasion Eat my poison And swallow your pride down, down...Oh let's not forget..... "I love it when you eat it" MEDIA (Print) It seems to me that the worse off the story, the more they write about it today. And they sensationalize the worst parts and give praise to the wrong people. Look at Michael Jackson. He overdosed on pain killers and killed himself. He was shown to be a hero in the media and the entire world praised him. The message should have been that he was a sick man and was addicted to drugs. But that's now how it played out. The media and powers that be went and arrested his Doctor and put him away for a few years. So the message here is that its Okay to be famous and do drugs. Kids see it just the way it is...Look at Amy Winehouse. Same situation. They called her a troubled girl...What is that? She was a junkie! But they failed to focus on that because there were records to be sold and money to be paid advertising and pushing on the kids....They own the record labels and the networks so they know how to sell it. Our kids are fed a nice bowl of dysfunction every day. Its a shame. The Internet/ Facebook/Smart phones Do you really think your 10 year old doesn't know what a naked person looks like or what porn is? All they have to do is type a word in Google and click video or image and "Poof" there it is! (Don't believe me? Do it now) And they know how to do it. And you will never stop it. The Brooklyn Public Library allows kids to go online and do whatever they want. Nothing is blocked and that is a shame. Kids "Hook up" today through friends of friends on Facebook. They don't talk on the phone, they text and chat online. There is no mystery left to wonder about. They go on Facebook and see all they need and read all they have to. Chivalry has been assassinated by Mark Zuckerberg! TELEVISION Every TV show on prime time has totally offensive humor. We can laugh as adults, but our kids watch it. Some of the things they talk about I would have been killed for thinking about when I was a kid. And it is every show. Its all about the same thing. Sex, Money, style and what you look like. Nothing more than all of the artificial stuff. Make sure your kids get a wholesome dose of Television..... There is nothing normal in the world anymore. Let me correct myself. Nothing is shocking when you read it. And that is very disturbing. Someone needs to put a leash on this thing and they need to do it now! Or we wont see 30 years! |
Love was shared in Brooklyn Today! |

![]() Brooklyn has a problem and it is a serious one. Can you believe that on Thanksgiving day in 2011 we still have people living here that do not have food? This may sound ridiculous to you, but it is a harsh reality for too many. And I witnessed it first hand today. This Holiday season I decided that I would donate my time to helping the less fortunate people. I made the decision after doing the walk for hunger with Reaching Out Community services. I thought to myself, no matter what struggles I have had to deal with in my lifetime, nothing could be worse to me than being hungry, and not knowing where my next meal would come from. So I called the office of my friend Charles Reichenthal, of Community board 13, and I asked who needed help. I was told to call Debbie Santiago of the Salt And Sea Mission. So I did. This is an amazing woman with a story that all of you need to read about. I did, and soon after I gave her a call and arranged to volunteer today. I felt good about doing this although I wasn't sure what to expect. Most of us usually back away from things we don't know. It all has to do with the fear of change I guess. The people I met today were wonderful and there was nothing but Love in the atmosphere. One woman I was speaking with brought her kids. These kids will never learn a better lesson than this in any book. Our goal was to make sure that the people in the room next to us were fed a meal. And we did this without a hitch. Everyone chipped in and every person at the mission was fed the greatest meal I ever laid my eyes on. I was brought back to the days of eating at my Grandmothers house. Twelve aunts and uncles and a gazillion cousins...Today reminded me of what it was like back then, my best memories growing up with family that I love, and wish could be in the same room with again....Just once! Will all of this said there was another side to my experience today. The people who were most important, the one's in need. We all see people who come on hard times, and no matter how they got there, we need to focus on how to get them better. I watched people stuff food in their pockets because in their minds, it will be food for later. And this is the reality of what hunger does. Debbie explained something to me today that really opened my eyes to something. She said that most people are introduced to crime at a young age by stealing food from a supermarket. This is all derived from being hungry! What I saw today was a wake up call to me and I hope it will be a wake up call to at least one person who reads this and decides to volunteer or make a donation to help another person in need..... Thank you to all who came out today and showed me one of the most beautiful days of my life! |

Mayor Bloomberg Gives Occupy Wall Street protesters the Boot! |

![]() At 1:00 a.m. The N.Y.P.D. started removing people from Zucotti Park, the birthplace of the "Occupy Wall Street" movement, so that the park can be cleaned and restored. The mayor did this citing that: "The law that created Zuccotti Park required that it be open for the public to enjoy for passive recreation 24 hours a day," Bloomberg said. "Ever since the occupation began, that law has not been complied with, as the park has been taken over by protesters, making it unavailable to anyone else." “I have become increasingly concerned — as had the park’s owner, Brookfield Properties — that the occupation was coming to pose a health and fire safety hazard to the protesters and to the surrounding community,” Mr. Bloomberg said. He added that on Monday, Brookfield asked the city to assist in enforcing “the no sleeping and camping rules. “But make no mistake,” the mayor said, “the final decision to act was mine and mine alone.” Nearly 200 people had been arrested, most on charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. This is following a raid in Oakland Ca. on Monday, where they arrested 33 people. The Occupy Wall Street Movement claims that they are a global movement that is reclaiming our humanity and our future. ![]() And fittingly so...at his birthday celebration Wednesday evening at Scopello restaurant, Mr. Scissura officially anounced that he will be running for the office of Brooklyn Borough President. The place was packed with supporters who cheered him on! Carlo is very versed in all of the different cultures of our borough, he knows this place, and he has been everywhere. Carlo is also very experienced especially being that he served as Chief of Staff at the borough President's office and now is a special advisor. Let's wish him not only a successful run as the next Borough President, but a happy 41st as well!
